James Rudolph Davis was born 14 Aug 1922 in Cassat, South Carolina.  He attend school in the Columbia City System and the University of South Carolina.

During his aviation career he was a bomber pilot during WWII flying B-24 and B-25’s; 51st Infantry Division Aviation Officer flying the L-16, L-17, L-19 and L-20 aircraft; and served a dual role as SCARNG State Aviation Officer and the Army Aviation Support Facility Commander flying the OH-58 and UH-1H aircraft.
