218th Infantry Brigade (Mechanized) (Separate), HHC Aviation Section

1974 0104 – The 30th Infantry Division was deactivated, and 2nd Brigade, 30th Infantry Division, became the 218th Infantry Brigade (Mechanized) (Separate) in Newberry, South Carolina. With this organizational change the aviation section was now assigned OH-58A (four) and UH-1H (two) aircraft.  This growth also increased the authorized assigned strength necessary to maintain and fly missions required by Brigade Headquarters.  MAJ Phil Fidler was the new Aviation Section Leader and SFC Ronnie Spigner was the Section NCO.

1991 0901 – The Brigade MTOE changed and did not include the Aviation Section .  As a result the section members transferred to other aviation units within the state  or to other positions within the brigade.

From 1968 until 1991 , 2nd Bde, 30th Infantry Division, HHC, Aviation Section (1968) and subsequently as 218th Infantry Brigade (Mechanized) (Separate), HHC Aviation Section, officers and enlisted men of Brigade Aviation Section not only accepted and accomplished all of their brigade’s missions but very actively participated or supported other aviation units missions to include AASF programs and projects.
