From March of 1967 to March 1968 he served with the 48th Assault Helicopter Company (Blue Stars) in Viet Nam as a Slick Pilot flying 1150 combat hours.
After Vietnam, Bill joined the SC National Guard where he was a flight instructor and retired after 22 years total with 4,500 flight hours. He joined the 51st Assault Helicopter Company in St. Matthews in May of 1970 rated in the OH-13, CH-34 and UH-1 aircraft.
He retired in Jacksonville, Florida.
